About MAPS4AID - Fighting Violence Against Women in India
<p><span style="color: #424242; font-family: georgia, serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px;">If you are from from India, you dont need a statistics report or a news channel to tell you that gender inequality is rampant here. You just have to look around your home and the fact is right there staring at your face. Look at your mother and how she is treated. Look at your sisters and friends once they get married and how their life changes. Growing up, I always used to think that things will change with “MY” Generation but it hasn’t and it does not seem like it will. Then I thought, the problem was that enough was not being done. The government alone cannot make a difference. In fact, the government is doing its best to fight injustice against women, but one has to understand that the problem also lies with the Indian psyche. It will take more than a couple of stringent laws and actions to change the situation here. The fight is not just for our elected representatives, the fight is for all of US to join in. I think everyone can be the change. Everyone can raise their voice. I am a strong believer that social justice can be achieved through the collective voice of a billion people.</span></p>

Initially I thought it was rubbish, but then I started googling about incidents of violence against women in India. And I found out how shockingly true it all was. And what was being done? NOTHING. And what was I doing? NOTHING. So that really pushed me off the edge and gave me the drive to DO SOMETHING.
